Amver Participant Disney Fantasy Saves 10 Migrants

The Amver participating cruise ship Disney Fantasy rescued ten Cuban migrants from a damaged homemade raft 40 miles southeast of Long Sound Point, Key Largo, Fla. on Thursday, March 10, 2016.

The Disney Fantasy was on its way back to Florida from a seven day cruise when the crew spotted the Cuban migrants waving a white flag from an unseaworthy vessel. The captain of the ship immediately launched a rescue operation and the ten migrants were safely brought aboard the cruise ship. The rescue crew was given a heroes welcome when they returned to the ship.

U.S. Coast Guard rescue personnel in Key West, Fla. were notified by the ship and the Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell met the Bahamian flagged cruise ship so the migrants could be transferred for processing. None of the Cubans were injured in the rescue or transfer process.

You can see the rescue and transfer in the video below.
